The guys are saying, ‘nah bro. Pinning is for chicks.’ Not true dawg. Well actually 90% of the visitors to the Brash Fitness Pinterest page are women but if you’re looking for recipes, quotes, motivational fitness images this is a great resource.
For a while I found myself making and eating the exact same meals day after day after day. It gets so boring. Today I’m baking some chicken, steaming broccoli and cooking some brown rice, blah. Do that seven days per week and you’re a bodybuilder *gag. Last night however, I made coconut crusted chicken with a spicy mango dipping sauce!
In the summer I purchased a couple very good cookbooks [Thug Kitchen and Joyous Health] and that helped a lot but the former is a vegan cookbook and the latter is paleo – I am not vegan and sometimes you want some starch, you know what I’m saying?
That brings me back to Pinterest. Check out these recipes I ‘pinned’ recently for some delicious looking meal ideas.
I wouldn’t say breakfast is the most important meal of the day but it is the hardest to get right. Most people don’t ‘have time’ which really means ‘didn’t give themselves enough time’ to prepare something well balanced. Bagels and muffins are not a good breakfast. These muffins are a take on the Breakfast Pizza I have shared a million times before. I love this because after you make a batch just freeze them and take them out when you need it. Making these gives you no excuse to skip breakfast.
If you really don’t have enough time to heat up pre-made egg muffins or you simply prefer a cold breakfast try overnight oats instead. Use a mason jar to build it then put it in the fridge overnight. So simple. You can mix and match different ingredients – no hard and fast rules with this one.
Lunch is just as tough as breakfast to prepare for. That’s why people end up brown bagging a crappy little sangweech [sandwich] or they grab something fast from the cafeteria or chain down the street. Plus you don’t want to bring fish or hard boiled eggs to the office for fear of being labelled smelly lunch person. I gotcha covered! Quinoa salad bowls are perfect for the office because you can eat them cold – bam! There are so many options. Cook your quinoa then add whatever the hell you like. By that I mean veggies and protein of course.
Setting and forgetting is huge for me. I hate having to stand next to or near the stove all the time. I love slow cooking for that reason. But on a day like today when I only have 30-60 minutes with my son before I have to head back to the gym for evening classes this meal is perfect. Place all the ingredients together and let the oven do its thang.
